Clear communication is essential to healthy relationships, including those between parent and child. Safe from Harm works to begin dialogue between parent and child regarding sexual reproductive health. Everyone learns about sexual reproductive health, but often this process is filled with ambiguity and mixed messages. Healthy dialogue between parent and child helps remove shame from conversations on sexual reproductive health and provides better information.

The Safe from Harm program has sessions for children and parents separately, and later brings them together to converse. Parents are encouraged to reflect on their personal development and their relationships with their children and discuss signs of sexual development in children. Children are taught about sexually transmitted infections, with a specific emphasis on HIV/AIDs, pregnancy, and encouraged to be open with their parents. Afterwards, they meet and discuss together.
